Coco

Shih Tzu Β· Female Β· Adult Β· 5 years

Coco is a wonderful 5 year old Shih Tzu with a huge heart and so much love to give. This sweet little girl adores people and greets everyone she meets with a friendly wag and a gentle nature. Her favourite things are spending time with her humans, snoozing on the sofa, and pottering around the garden, sniffing and exploring at her own pace. Since coming into foster, Coco has been making lovely progress with her housetraining and is gradually building confidence in the world around her. Walks are still very new to her, so she prefers a slow and gentle approach, but with patience and encouragement she is already taking brave little steps. She enjoys enrichment activities, especially Kongs, and is always happiest when she has company nearby. Coco is a lovely girl who has bags of potential. With a calm, caring family willing to help her continue growing in confidence, she is sure to become the most devoted and loving companion. Coco is currently enjoying life in a lovely foster home so is not based at the Manchester centre. Coco is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe and secure. She would suit a quieter household with secondary school-aged children and would prefer to be the only dog in the home so she can enjoy all the attention to herself. Coco can struggle with separation anxiety, so she needs a family who are around for most of the day and can keep leaving hours to a minimum. She is continuing her housetraining and will need patient guidance. Quiet walks would suit her best, with access to a private secure area being ideal. Coco cannot live with cats, but small furries may be considered if kept separate.

About Coco

What life with Coco looks like

Coco is an extra-large adult shih tzu dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Coco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
