Cointreau

Male Β· Adult Β· 4 years

Cointreau is surrendered to us along with a group of other budgies due to the owner's health issues. Many birds have already found new homes, but no one has come forward for Cointreau yet. Cointreau is a friendly male who gets along well with the group. He would love to live with a nice female budgie in his new home, and it's no problem if there are multiple birds around. He's not hand-tame, but he listens quietly when you talk to him. Who has a cozy household for handsome Cointreau?

NLΒ·Show original

About Cointreau

What life with Cointreau looks like

Cointreau is an adult bird waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously β€” ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cointreau, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cointreau?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cointreau on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cointreau if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a bird can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Cointreau already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a bird comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden directly what is included and what Cointreau still needs.
What happens if Cointreau isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cointreau and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
