Adopt CONRAD

Male · Senior · 15 years

Estimated birthdate: July 2010 Brief info: Suspicious of strangers, reserved, very friendly, clingy, and cuddly towards those he trusts, female dogs+, male dogs+, cats+ The approximately July 2010-born, emaciated CONRAD was found in a severely emaciated state on the street at the end of 2016 but was fortunately captured and brought to Kata in the shelter. The poor fellow must have experienced terrible things. Unfortunately, we will never know what he endured. Due to this, he was initially very skeptical and mistrustful of new situations and people. He needed a lot of time to regain trust. Unfortunately, he has not found a home yet because of this. With the people he trusts, he is now an absolutely accessible, grateful, and weathered dog man – he adores his caregiver Pityu devotedly. Formerly, CONRAD was a bit dominant, but the mildness of age has taken hold, and now the dog dad gets along very well with other dogs and can share a pack with female dogs and male dogs in the run, where he used to play. Now, however, he is out of the play age, though. When meeting Kata’s friendly dog, he showed a friendly interest, so he could also be socialized with indoor cats. For the male dog, we are looking for a very dog-experienced home where he is given the time, peace, and patience to adapt to the new and to recognize that these new people are not “bad” and that he can trust them. Since CONRAD is very mistrustful of strangers, a few things must be in place in his new home to make his transition into a new life after such a long time in the animal shelter as stress-free as possible. Until he builds trust, CONRAD must be given his space and not be pressured. If he feels pressured, there is a risk that he will snap. Ideally, he would come into the new home on the ground floor (without stairs) and there would be a securely fenced garden, so that he can be handled as little as possible during the first days, but can be led with a permanently attached leash. We think that the first days are “critical,” until CONRAD realizes that he can trust. But he is definitely worth the trouble! CONRAD will be rehomed as a grace-place senior for a reduced animal protection fee. CONRAD travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport to his new home. Would you like to give this poor soul a life worth living where his needs are respected and loved? Then please contact us!

About CONRAD

What life with CONRAD looks like

CONRAD is a senior dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting CONRAD, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CONRAD?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CONRAD on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CONRAD if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CONRAD already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CONRAD isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know CONRAD and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
