Adopt Coolio

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 4 years

At Coolio the name is the program, there is probably hardly a cooler and more relaxed cat than our Coolio. And then he is also sooo affectionate and loves being carried around the apartment like a baby. The guy is a dream!!! And the little Tai has noticed this too and hardly ever leaves his side, because with such a cool guy by her side the world is a little less scary. When Coolio came to us, he had an open fistula on the right ear, which led to an ablation of the ear canal with a lateral bulla osteotomy. In German: the entire external ear canal was removed and the middle ear (bulla) was opened. Because of this, he can hardly hear anything on the right ear (it doesn't bother him at all) and he has slight balance problems. But you can hardly notice this when he moves around in his familiar environment. Playing, climbing, going up and down stairs - all no problem, rather his favorite pastime. And he has a permanent head tilt from it. It doesn't bother him either and makes him look a bit cheeky. Since the eardrum on the right ear hasn't closed completely, you just have to keep an eye on his ear in order to be able to act quickly in case of an ear infection. But otherwise he has no problems and has not had an ear infection since his operation (which is now 1.5 years ago). Children should not be in the new home. The two will only be rehomed together, because without Coolio Tai's world would collapse. Tai and Coolio will only be rehomed as apartment cats. A secure balcony, or an outdoor area accessible from the house that is completely enclosed are mandatory. Due to our current staffing situation, it will unfortunately take longer than we would like before we can respond to inquiries. We apologize sincerely!

About Coolio

What life with Coolio looks like

Coolio is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Elmshorn in Elmshorn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coolio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coolio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Elmshorn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coolio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coolio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Elmshorn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coolio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coolio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Elmshorn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coolio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
