Cooper

Mixed Breed · Male

Super Cooper. 🐾😍 Cooper is a 1-year-old Springer Spaniel with so much love to give. *He was surrendered to us after being involved* in a road traffic accident, undergoing surgery to fix a badly broken leg, and spending the last 2 months healing, he is now ready to find his forever family. He is extremely energetic and loves attention, very affectionate, always up for cuddles, and happiest when he’s by your side. He is so excited to be reintroducing walks into his daily routine and can’t wait to run around and sniff everything in sight. He is an amazing companion with the sweetest nature, has great manners, and has been quick to learn new tricks. He is both crate and toilet trained, knows most commands, and is incredibly eager to please. He is highly intelligent and a very fast learner, so he would thrive with an owner willing to put in some training time — it would be hugely rewarding for both of them. Cooper would do best in a home where someone is around often, with access to a fully enclosed garden. *Springer spaniels are working dogs so they need regular exercise and lots of stimulation for their brains to keep them happy.* He isn’t used to being around young children, so a home without little ones would be ideal *but if the adults are committed to training Cooper and the kids it can work*. Older kids can take him on walks and play with him perfectly. He truly has so much love to give. As for his favourite things — sweet potato tops the list for food, and he loves all his toys, especially a good hard chew. He’s a big fan of car rides and the wind in his lovely ears, and is perfectly happy being brushed or groomed too. Most of all he loves curling up next to you and having a sleep and a cuddle after a nice walk. *Cooper is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped.* apply using this link if you can give Cooper the loving home he deserves

About Cooper

What life with Cooper looks like

Cooper is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Laois SPCA in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Cooper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cooper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Laois SPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cooper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cooper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Laois SPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cooper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cooper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Laois SPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cooper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
