Copito

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

PS S, born: 08/21, male dog. At Finca since 07/23, Copito seeks people with hearts and with fear-dog experience. A very special dog with a moving story seeks people with hearts, patience, and understanding. Copito is no ordinary dog. He is one of those who look into you silently and deeply—eyes that tell stories we will never fully understand. In June 2023, Copito was found on Fuerteventura—lost, emaciated, spiritually exhausted. In the local Perreira, he caught the attention of our animal protection colleagues Sarah & Sven, who could not leave him behind. And so began Copito’s long journey back to life. At his rescue, Copito was deeply traumatized. People meant fear for him. Nearness was threatening, and every approach made him freeze or flee. A scar above his head testifies to what he might have endured. What exactly was done to him remains uncertain—yet his behavior speaks volumes. But Copito has taken the first step. Since the end of June 2024, he lives in a loving foster home in northern Germany, where he learns trust in small but significant steps. There, he lives with two other dogs, closely follows their lead, plays, and even frolics with a cheerful abandon. His development moves us deeply: from a shadow of himself, he has become a dog that opens up hesitantly. Sometimes, even laughing. But Copito will never be an ordinary dog. Some sounds and situations still unbalance him. Then he retreats or goes into flight mode. It is likely that these fears will accompany him for a lifetime. But who opens their heart to him quickly recognizes: Copito is full of gentleness, full of longing for safety—and full of love, when you simply let him be. What Copito needs now is not an ordinary home. He needs people with experience, patience, and an open heart. People who do not expect him to "function" but accept what is. A quiet home in the countryside, with a securely fenced garden, and ideally, a sovereign, playful dog companion would be perfect for him. And just as important: the willingness to learn about Copito on his foster home and to foster trust to grow. Copito will not be the dog who runs up to you joyfully. But if you give him time, show patience, and welcome him with open arms, he will love you in his own quiet way—and never forget. A dog like Copito is a challenge—but also a gift. If you are ready to accept this gift, then contact us.

Was Copito jetzt braucht, ist kein gewöhnliches Zuhause.

About Copito

What life with Copito looks like

Copito is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Copito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Copito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Copito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Copito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Copito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Copito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Copito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
