Coquito &#8211

Unknown · Puppy · 6 months

May we introduce Coquito – a young, charming Water Spaniel, born in January 2023, who is waiting for his fortune at the animal shelter "El Buen Amigo." Whether in his summer look with short, sassy fur or in full lock of glory – Coquito is always an absolute stunner! The Spanish Water Spaniel, also known as the Perro de Agua, is a versatile, intelligent, and athletic dog breed originally bred for work in and around water. Their cheerful nature, pronounced learning enthusiasm, and characteristic, curly hair make them ideal companions for active people. These dogs are known for their adaptability and people-oriented nature and love to share new adventures with their trusted people. By the way, Coquito was given up by his family at the animal shelter because they no longer had "any interest" in him. This lively dog longs for closeness, mental stimulation, and affection. The transition from the cheerful family life to the animal shelter was a deep turning point for him, but Coquito has maintained his positive nature and hopes for a second chance. Coquito is a prime example of his breed: friendly, open-minded, and always curious about the new. He is a bundle of energy that loves movement and mental challenges just as much as cuddle moments. He gets along well with other dogs and finds children simply amazing – no wonder, since he originally came from an active household with children who had a special place in his heart. Coquito is very adaptable, but he needs people who can offer him both movement and mental stimulation. Brain and muscle work are a must for this clever Water Spaniel, as only then can he feel completely at home. A wonderful home where he can explore his curiosity and develop together with his people – whether through dog sports, walks, or snuggling on the couch – would be especially beautiful. Currently, Coquito is still being treated for heartworms, but he is on the road to full recovery and ready to start life with full enthusiasm. He will still receive one tablet per month for six more months to prevent re-infection, but then this topic will be finished. Whoever chooses Coquito will not only get a beautiful, unique dog but also a loyal, intelligent companion who will surely enrich the life of his new family. Coquito looks forward to meeting you – perhaps you are exactly the person who will show him how wonderful life can be by the side of reliable people.

About Coquito &#8211

What life with Coquito &#8211 looks like

Coquito &#8211 is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coquito &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coquito &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coquito &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coquito &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coquito &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coquito &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coquito &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
