Cornel

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

In the animal shelter since: July 2026 Estimated age: born approx. April 2020 Estimated shoulder height: approx. 60 – 69 cm Estimated weight: approx. 35 – 39 kg Get to know Cornel in more videos! Cornel - a big, gentle companion with an open side! Cornel was found near a playground in Romania. Residents reported that he had been hanging around there for some time and caused no problems. When he was rescued, he was friendly and calm. For more information about how dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. Cornel has settled in very well at the shelter and has developed beautifully. While he was initially more reserved, he now approaches people with much more openness and accessibility. He greets visitors with a wagging tail and enjoys spending time close to them. He lets himself be petted at length and also enjoys being brushed, very relaxed and patient about it. Cornel also mastered his first walk really nicely. He allowed his harness and cone collar to be put on and taken off calmly, and he patiently waited while the harness was adjusted. Outside, he walked pleasantly on the leash without pulling, sniffed a lot, and explored his surroundings with interest. He briefly looked at unfamiliar impressions and then continued on relaxed. He also orients well toward his companions when spoken to. So far, Cornel gets along harmoniously and compatibly with his kennel partner. We suspect that there is a livestock guardian dog (LGD) in Cornel. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a livestock guardian dog. LGD mixes are often very independent and need confident, consistent leadership. In addition, Cornel has cropped ears and a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. Despite his wonderful development so far, we wish for Cornel a home experienced with dogs that matches his size and his presumed livestock guardian dog heritage. His future people should enjoy having a large dog and provide him with a reliable framework. Cornel already shows that behind his imposing appearance is a friendly, people-oriented companion. For this furry friend, we wish for people who are aware that shelter dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict at the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That is why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion at their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adopting, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

Im Tierheim seit: Juli 2026 Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. April 2020 Geschätzte Schulterhöhe: ca. 60 – 69 cm Geschätztes Gewicht: ca. 35 – 39 kg Lerne hier Cornel in weiteren Videos kennen!

About Cornel

What life with Cornel looks like

Cornel is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cornel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cornel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cornel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cornel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Cornel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cornel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cornel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
