Crispin

Poodle · Male · Adult · 7 years

Crispin originally came to us from a breeder last October. He was adopted for a few months but has come back into our care after his adopters sadly realised they were not the right match for him. Although they gave him every opportunity to settle, Crispin remained very worried whenever the male in the household was home and simply couldn't relax in his company. Since returning to us, Crispin has now spent a week back in foster care and has settled in beautifully. He is an incredibly loving, cuddly little boy who simply wants to be close to his people and enjoy all the love and affection he has missed out on. While he is still worried by some men due to his past experiences, once he trusts you his affectionate nature really shines through. Crispin will be best suited to adopters who understand the needs of scared ex-breeding dogs and who will give him all the time he needs to settle at his own pace. He gets on wonderfully with the other dogs in his foster home and sleeps happily alongside them through the night. Although he enjoys their company, his foster carer feels he could also be very happy as an only dog, where he can soak up all the cuddles and attention he so craves. In the right home, with owners who are around enough to reassure him and who have experience with ex-breeding dogs, he would thrive. One thing Crispin has discovered is just how much he loves going for walks! He gets wonderfully excited when it's time to head out, twirling around and eagerly waiting by the front door. He now walks beautifully on both a lead and harness, is very sociable with other dogs he meets, enjoys exploring new places, and travels well in the car. Walking has become one of his favourite activities and is a lovely way to watch his confidence shine through. As Crispin has now experienced life in a home, he has become familiar with many of the sights and sounds of everyday living. He has settled quickly into his foster home's routine and sleeps soundly through the night. He has had the occasional wee indoors first thing in the morning, but this has already improved over the last few days as he has established a routine. His adopters should still be prepared to continue his house training with patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement. Crispin has also shown that he forms incredibly strong bonds with his favourite person. He loves to be close by and wants to be involved in everything they are doing. Because of this, he showed signs of separation anxiety in his previous home when left for more than a couple of hours. His ideal home would therefore be one where someone is around for most of the day, and where any time left alone can be built up very gradually, helping him feel safe and secure. Crispin has a cataract in his right eye and is developing a cataract in his left eye. Despite this, he gets around brilliantly, and you would hardly know he has any issues with his eyesight. He has also had all of his teeth removed, so he will need to remain on a soft diet for the rest of his life. He has Grade 2 patella luxation in both hind legs, although this may continue to improve with gentle exercise as he builds muscle. Crispin really is a special little boy who has had a difficult start in life but has so much love to give. He is looking for a very special family who will understand his worries, cherish the affectionate little dog he has become, and give him the love and security he so deserves. In return, they will gain the most devoted and loving companion. Crispin has a travel document, which says he is 7 years old, but we do feel he could be a little older than this. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Crispin

What life with Crispin looks like

Crispin is a small adult poodle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Crispin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Crispin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Crispin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Crispin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Crispin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Crispin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Crispin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
