Curro

Podenco · Male · Senior · 13 years

The Andalusian Podenco Curro was exploited, abused, and mistreated for 12 long years. Curro had to live in a so-called Rehala. This is how the miserable huts, sheds, or stables are called where Spanish hunting dog packs, each individually chained, are housed. There they lead a cruel existence, always on the edge of survival, and those who are no longer useful are disposed of in one way or another. Curro must have been a good, beautiful, and successful dog, otherwise his owner would not have kept him for so long. Moreover, he was lucky in misfortune that he was taken to the animal shelter instead of being gotten rid of in another way. And Curro had even more luck, because despite his leishmaniasis and his age, a foster home took him in and thus he was able to come to Germany and is recovering gradually. Unfortunately, the leishmaniasis is very active and so he has to be treated with strong medications. Again, he is lucky, because his organs are not affected and he responds well to the treatment. Furthermore, he is brave and remains still during every injection and does not take anything personally. Since he arrived with a strong limp, this was naturally checked. Once again, luck, Curro has an old injury, but no significant impairment. Some physiotherapy and muscle building should improve his condition in the long term. With all of this, this poor old dog certainly does not have the best chances on the "adoption market". Aaaaah... but Curro is simply a wonderful dog. His joy of life is great, he thrives, he is cheerful, nice, and just simply wonderful. You can convince yourself in the videos. If you have questions about leishmaniasis, feel free to check our information page or ask the responsible adoption officer. More information is available here. Taking responsibility for a rescue dog is always a special challenge. The dogs bring a backpack full of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to get used to their new life.

DE·Show original

About Curro

What life with Curro looks like

Curro is a large senior podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Curro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Curro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Curro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Curro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Curro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Curro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Curro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
