Dagobert

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Compatible with: Dogs: Yes ‍Cats: Unknown, can be tested Update of the foster home April 2026: Dagobert, now named Drago, only arrived on Saturday (18.4.) and has learned to walk on a leash and do his "business" outside in just one day. Drago is very sensitive and incredibly cuddly. With people, he is still rather submissive, but of course can change with acclimatization, but generally seems to be a people-friendly dog and also behaves kindly towards fellow animals. He is also very nice to cats (a stray cat). Whether he can live with cats can still not be determined with certainty based on the short time. He must now get used to environmental stimuli step by step and of course learns this every day 🙂 So, like he has shown in the short time, I could imagine him as a family dog, but not as a city dog. Visually, he looks like a Retriever mix, a really beautiful and very lovable dog. Who would like to take Dagobert by the paw and show him the big wide world, with everything that belongs to a happy dog life? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Dagobert and his siblings have developed wonderfully and have grown into beautiful, healthy, young puppies. The fur has recovered well, and there are hardly any spots that remind of the past. What is missing now is their own home. Two sisters have already made this leap and are delighting their families in Germany. We are sure that Dagobert does not fall short of his sisters and hope that he will be discovered soon. Do you still have a dog bed free? Then sign up! ____________________________________________________________________________________ Dagobert and his siblings are the puppies of a very shy street dog. They were born under an automobile wreckage and had almost no chance of survival due to the weather conditions. Additionally, the siblings suffered from severe skin problems. Although there is little space in the shelter, Virginia took in the 4 girls and 2 boys. Now, the puppies are vaccinated and treated for parasites - their skin and fur are slowly recovering, and we hope that the puppies will not have to spend their childhood behind bars any longer than necessary. In the shelter, Dagobert and his siblings are playful, curious, and happy. They love to play with each other, cuddle, and explore the world. Whoever decides on one of these puppies will surely get a great family dog by their side – loyal, clingy, and full of joy. Dagobert is now growing up alongside other dogs and learning good social behavior – excellent conditions to become a great companion later. Dagobert is one of the largest from the litter – his heart is certainly also the biggest. So far, he has only known life outside the shelter for a little while. He must learn the dog 101 step by step. For this, Dagobert needs people with patience, empathy, and joy in giving a young dog a loving home. All he is missing is his own family in Germany, who is willing to laugh, learn, and explore the world with him. Who still has a dog bed free? Please sign up! Bitte melde dich! About Dagobert

What life with Dagobert looks like

Dagobert is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Strays & Stories e.V. in Langenhagen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dagobert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dagobert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Strays & Stories e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dagobert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dagobert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Strays & Stories e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dagobert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dagobert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Strays & Stories e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dagobert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
