Dakota – 18-Month-Old Romanian Crossbreed Looking for a Patient, Loving Home Dakota is a beautiful 18-month-old Romanian Crossbreed weighing 23kg. Her journey has not been an easy one. She was found living on the streets of Romania and taken to a kill shelter before the team at Islay stepped in to give her a second chance and help her find the loving forever home she deserves. When Dakota first arrived at Islay, she was extremely frightened and would freeze whenever anyone approached her. Thanks to the kindness, patience, and understanding of staff and volunteers, she has made incredible progress in a short period of time. She now allows a harness and lead to be fitted, walks beautifully on a loose lead, and enjoys exploring on walks—especially when accompanied by another dog. Dakota continues to grow in confidence every day. She now accepts gentle head rubs from the people she trusts and has even started approaching them to take pieces of chicken from their hands. These may seem like small milestones, but for Dakota they are huge achievements and a testament to how far she has come. She absolutely loves the company of other dogs, and we believe she would thrive in a home with at least one confident resident dog who can help guide her and continue building her confidence. As Dakota has most likely never lived in a home environment, she is unlikely to be house-trained and may need time to adjust to everyday household sounds such as televisions, washing machines, and other domestic activities. Her new family will need to be patient and allow her to settle at her own pace.
