Dalia

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Dalia is a young female dog born in October 2025. She will likely be a small-sized dog, currently weighing 7 kilograms. She is a dog with a very sensitive, subtle character who needs time and a calm approach to feel safe. She arrived at the animal shelter as a very frightened and withdrawn female dog. Thanks to the work of the caretakers, she has already made noticeable progress and is gradually becoming accustomed to her surroundings, but physical contact with humans remains her biggest challenge. Touch is still difficult for her – in stressful situations she can react defensively, such as snapping, if someone tries to do something near her. At the same time, with the right approach, she can be convinced and is able to accept the actions of the caregiver. Dalia is a dog that is constantly making progress. Her adaptive abilities are very promising and give hope that, in the right conditions, she will be able to continue developing and building a relationship with humans. Although she is probably not going to become a very bold or overly social dog, everything points to the fact that she can reach a level of comfort allowing her to calmly and safely function in a home. At this moment, Dalia cannot walk on a leash, so the future caregiver should be prepared to start from scratch, with patient and pressure-free training. Her attitude towards cats is unknown. However, she gets along very well with other dogs – especially likes the company of puppies, with whom she happily plays. Contact with other dogs has a positive effect on her and can support her further development. We are looking for a quiet, understanding home for her, preferably for a person with experience with anxious dogs or willing to work on building trust. It will be crucial to create a safe, predictable environment for her and to give her time to open up at her own pace. Dalia is a female dog who needs a chance and a patient guide. With appropriate support, she has a real opportunity to become a calm, stable companion. Dalia is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Dalia to młoda suczka urodzona w październiku 2025 roku.

About Dalia

What life with Dalia looks like

Dalia is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dalia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dalia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dalia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dalia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dalia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dalia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dalia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
