Edyp

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Edyp, a dog born in March 2021. Edyp is a distinctive, somewhat unpredictable dog. When he arrived with us, he seemed to be a friendly, curious, and energetic dog. At first, he approached us cautiously, but once he got to know us, we didn’t have any problems with him. He even positively responded to all sorts of petting and the company of his caretakers. However, later we noticed that in the presence of new people, for example, visitors to our animal shelter, he might react in a truly unpredictable manner. Therefore, we cannot recommend him to everyone, and certainly not to a home with children. The person adopting Edyp must be experienced in dealing with larger dogs with a difficult, dominant personality. It’s also important to note that Edyp is not a small dog, as he currently weighs 27 kilograms and is quite strong. His appearance has improved significantly with us, as he arrived with visible malnutrition and a huge appetite, which he still retains today. He probably experienced hunger in the wild and still fears that he might run out of food. On a leash, Edyp walks a bit nervously, tugs a bit, and fidgets, but a short walk can be managed. The dog definitely prefers to expend his energy on a large run where he can run wild. As for his relationship with other dogs, we noticed that he doesn’t particularly care for their company. He is more of a loner and would be better off as the only dog. Although he has been with us for a short time, he already had a conflict with a more placid dog just because that dog encouraged him to play. It’s possible that he was envious and wanted a caregiver just for himself. Therefore, we will definitely not test him with any cats. Edyp is a rather specific dog, so the decision to adopt him should be carefully considered. Of course, we would like the best for him, so perhaps there is someone who can provide the right care and conditions to take such a dog into their home. With proper handling, Edyp may be just as welcoming to new owners as he is to us. He just needs a chance. Edyp is vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and neutered.

Edyp, pies urodzony w marcu 2021r. Edyp to charakterny, trochę nieprzewidywalny pies.

About Edyp

What life with Edyp looks like

Edyp is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edyp, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edyp?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edyp on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edyp if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edyp already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edyp isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edyp and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
