Dalma

Mixed Breed · Female

Dalma came to us from the Košice district of Luník IX. Her previous life was not easy at all – she arrived dirty, matted and very stressed. Despite that, she never showed aggression. She just needed time to realize that she was safe and that nothing threatened her anymore. Dalma is a gentle female dog of a calmer nature. She is initially more cautious around new people and still slightly fears sudden movements, which is understandable given her past. However, once she is given space, patience and a kind approach, she gradually relaxes. A few treats, a calm voice and sensitive handling are enough for Dalmu to become a friendly female dog who highly values human closeness. She gets along well with other dogs and female dogs, accepting their company calmly. She behaves politely indoors, doesn't destroy things and has good hygiene habits with regular walks. Handling is trouble-free, as long as it's done gently. Dalma is also suitable for first-time dog owners, and calmly for older people who are looking for a gentle, low-maintenance and grateful companion. She is looking for a home in an apartment or a house with full access to the yard, where she will have peace, security and a loving environment – this is most important for her after everything she has been through.

SK·Show original

Dalma sa k nám dostala z košickej mestskej časti Luník IX. Jej doterajší život nebol vôbec jednoduchý – prišla špinavá, zablšená a veľmi vystresovaná. Napriek tomu nikdy neprejavila agresivitu. So psami aj fenkami vychádza bez problémov.

About Dalma

What life with Dalma looks like

Dalma is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dalma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dalma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dalma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dalma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dalma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dalma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dalma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
