Danu

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The Care for Dogs -tarha team has been doing significant sterilization work in the nearby, impoverished Budila area for several years. In areas like Budila, where people are also poor and live in harsh conditions, there are especially many dogs in yards and roaming free, and so puppies are constantly being born. The tarha workers regularly visit the area to pick up dogs for sterilization and then return them to their homes after the operation. Almost every time they visit, they are asked not to return the dog picked for sterilization or that the tarha workers could take along a dog that is roaming the area without an owner. Although often dogs cannot be taken when the tarha is full, sometimes a lucky one gets in. This happened in April 2023, when Danu was picked up from the area with her puppies so the puppies could be safe. When the puppies grew up, they were adopted elsewhere, but shy Danu stayed at the tarha waiting for her own opportunity. Sweet Danu is very shy and unobtrusive in tarha conditions. She quietly tiptoes in her cage and easily disappears into the cage if anything out of the ordinary happens in the cage. She is very anxious about people and tries to hide or avoid an approaching person to the last. She is looking for an experienced home or foster home where she can be given time and support to become more confident. Danu has shared her cage with several different dogs over the years and has always gotten along well with everyone.

Care for Dogs -tarhan tiimi on jo muutaman vuoden tehnyt läheisellä, köyhällä Budilan alueella merkittävää sterilointityötä.

About Danu

What life with Danu looks like

Danu is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Danu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Danu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Danu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Danu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Danu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Danu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Danu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
