Adopt Darcy

Dachshund · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Edinburgh 6 years old Silver Dapple Smooth Coat Miniature (4kg) Neutered Adoption fee £250 This little silver beauty is Darcy, a bundle of love who charms everyone she meets with her cheeky and playful personality. She is at her absolute happiest when she is curled up cosy on the sofa or receiving plenty of cuddles and belly rubs. As a brave IVDD warrior, Darcy has worked hard on her recovery and she doesn’t let her physical challenges dim her spirit, though she does require a family who can manage her partial incontinence (no control over bowel movements) with patience and care. She enjoys short walks of up to thirty minutes and is more than content to be carried once she tires. Due to a change in circumstances, Darcy is now looking for a new family who can make her the centre of their world. Darcy is currently a much loved member of her family, and this decision has been made with her best interests at heart. Because she can be worried by small children, she would thrive best in an adult only environment, or a home with older, dachshund experienced children. While she has never lived with other pets, she is friendly toward other dogs and could potentially share her space with a calm, small breed companion after a successful introduction. Darcy’s new family should be home for most of the day as Darcy can be a little anxious when left alone. Since her IVDD recovery she has become a little more reactive during outdoor excursions, likely due to reduced socialisation while she was healing. She simply needs a patient, gentle owner ready to help her rebuild her confidence at her own pace. Requirements in a home: Someone who is home most of the time Can live with other dogs pending a successful meet Can live with older dog savvy children Cannot live with cats For more information please email

About Darcy

What life with Darcy looks like

Darcy is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darcy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darcy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darcy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darcy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darcy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darcy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darcy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
