Dark

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Dark is a cat around 5 years old who arrived at our shelter after being found in a local feline colony in conditions that immediately raised concern. He had a deep abrasion on his head and a severe otitis that caused him pain and discomfort. Thanks to the reporting of attentive and sensitive people, it was possible to intervene promptly and offer him the care he urgently needed. From the first days, it was clear that Dark did not only carry the physical signs of the difficulties he had experienced. He is a very fearful cat, wary of people and always ready to keep his distance. Probably life on the streets and past experiences have taught him not to trust humans easily. Today, Dark is followed daily by our volunteers and veterinarians who are taking care of his recovery. The wounds are healing, the otitis is under control, and slowly we are trying to help him understand that not all hands bring pain. Every small progress, a less frightened gaze or a shorter distance, represents for us a great victory. His story reminds us once again how important it is to combat abandonment and promote sterilization, fundamental tools to reduce the number of cats forced to live in situations of risk and suffering. Our desire is that Dark can one day overcome his fears and find a patient family, capable of respecting his times and giving him the serenity he deserves. Until then we will continue to take care of him with dedication and love. If you want to meet Dark and support our work on behalf of the most fragile cats, come visit us at the shelter. We are open every day until 12:00, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Dark is waiting for you, maybe just to start believing in people again. About Dark

What life with Dark looks like

Dark is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dark, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dark?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dark on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dark if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dark already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dark isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dark and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
