Darwin (SWe)

Mixed Breed · Male

Darwin arrived at our island sanctuary on Fuerteventura as a puppy together with his half-sister Sydney. The two have different mothers but the same father—a Australian Shepherd. While their siblings had already found homes, Darwin and Sydney were left behind, giving them the chance for a fresh start. Meanwhile, Darwin has been able to travel to Germany and has developed into a friendly, open, and highly people-oriented young dog. Unfortunately, due to changed personal circumstances of his owner, Darwin is now looking for a new home once again. Darwin is an intelligent, curious, and eager-to-learn dog who loves being with his people. He thoroughly enjoys cuddles, seeks close contact with his caregivers, and shows great affection. At the same time, he brings a healthy dose of adventurous spirit and is eager to explore the world. This handsome male dog learns quickly and continues to develop steadily. He already does very well with house training, and he’s also successfully learning to stay alone. With loving and consistent guidance, Darwin will grow into a wonderful companion. As a young Australian Shepherd mix, Darwin needs people who enjoy keeping him physically and mentally stimulated. He doesn’t just want to go for walks; he also wants to learn, experience, and be kept busy together with his humans. His intelligence and willingness to learn make working with him a real joy. We’d like to find Darwin a lively home—preferably in a more rural setting. He’d certainly appreciate having a fenced garden. He could also imagine living happily with older, stable children. Darwin is a cheerful, affectionate, and lovable young dog who is now looking for people who can offer him a permanent home. Anyone who has the time, patience, and joy for a clever young dog will find in Darwin a loyal companion for life. Who would like to experience many adventures together with Darwin?

About Darwin (SWe)

What life with Darwin (SWe) looks like

Darwin (SWe) is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darwin (SWe), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darwin (SWe)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darwin (SWe) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darwin (SWe) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darwin (SWe) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darwin (SWe) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darwin (SWe) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
