Adopt Dec

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 4 years

As an ex-racer, he will need to be walked on lead and muzzled when outside of the home so would benefit from a secure garden so he has somewhere for zoomies! Due to his high prey drive, he would not be suitable to live with cats or small furries. Dec has a medical condition which is well managed with pain relief which will need to continue long term, we can discuss this with you if you are found to be a match. Dec is a gorgeous Greyhound who has just celebrated his 4th birthday with us! His birthday wish is to find a family to show him all about home comforts now he has retired from racing. He would like to be the only pet in the home but could have some doggy friends to socialise with on walks. Dec is a happy, friendly boy who adores spending time with people and could join a home with children of Primary School Age who are comfortable around larger dogs that can be excitable. He will make a wonderful addition to a family willing to help him adjust to home life although he is likely not used to living in a home and may need support with settling in and having leaving hours built up. He loves people and would like a home where his family is happy for him to sleep nearby or are willing to sleep downstairs with him initially until he is settled. Dec is very foodie which will help with any training but he's a bit of a deep thinker and it can take him a little while to figure out what is being asked of him!

About Dec

What life with Dec looks like

Dec is a small adult greyhound dog waiting at Dogs Trust Snetterton in Snetterton.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Has medical condition requiring long-term pain relief medication. Needs muzzle when outside due to high prey drive.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dec, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dec?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Snetterton handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dec on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dec if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Snetterton will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dec already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dec isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Snetterton early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dec and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
