Devoted Digger

Mixed Breed Β· Male Β· Senior Β· 13 years

Digger is an adorable 13-year-old yellow Labrador boy who came into rescue because he was having to be left for very long hours and this wasn't fair on him. Digger is in an Oldies Club foster home near Pewsey, Wiltshire, waiting for his forever home. Overview: Digger is a good-natured boy whose favourite thing in the world is to play ball. He gets on very well with other dogs and he enjoys a good walk. His new home must have a nice garden for him to mooch in. Digger is a devoted old chap and wants his new people to be around most of the time to love and adore him! Doing well in foster: Digger settled at his foster home within 3-4 days. He loves to be with his foster carers, but when they do need to go out he settles down quietly waiting for them to return. As he came into rescue due to being left for long hours, we want Digger to find a home with people who are at home most of the time. Good with dogs: Digger is sharing his foster home with a resident old Labrador and they mainly ignore one another and there is never any animosity. Digger is also friendly towards dogs he meets on walks. Unknown with cats: There are no cats at the foster home. Digger once heard the word 'cat' though and started forward on the lead, so maybe that's an indication that he isn't a fan, but his foster carers haven’t encountered a cat with him. Good with older children: Digger has been friendly towards the local children, who like to stroke him. We assume he would be fine living with older children who will treat him with respect and recognise that older dogs need plenty of quiet time. Loves a good walk: Digger loves his walks and he is excellent off lead in enclosed spaces. His recall is fairly good. He tends to pull a bit on the lead due to excitement but he can easily be reined back and told to heel, with some success. In foster, he is having a walk of up to an hour in the morning, when he plays ball in the enclosed fields. Before sundown he goes for a walk of 20-30 minutes with no off-lead time. This seems to work well, though Digger could probably manage with less or more. He also has almost constant access to the garden too, if he likes, to have a wander round. Good in the car : Yes he is! Digger jumps in with very little help and settles down. He travels well without any problems. He has to be restrained from trying to jump out of the car on arrival before his car harness has been detached. Digger's favourite pastimes: BALL BALL BALL! Chasing and bringing back the ball is his favourite thing. Digger's ideal home: His ideal new home would be with a retired couple. He likes to be with his foster carers as much as he can. His new home will need a secure private garden as Digger likes to be able to go out in the garden for a mooch at various times through the day. Digger is content to sleep downstairs in his own bed at night. Health notes: Digger is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been flea treated and wormed. He has been neutered since coming into rescue, and has had a dental with a couple of loose teeth removed. His back legs are quite stiff, unsurprisingly for a dog his age, and this sometimes shows when it takes him a few moments to stretch them after lying down. But to watch him run for the ball, you wouldn’t think he was an old dog! He is having YuMove joint supplements but no medication and the vet has discharged him after his recent surgery. Foster carer's summary of Digger: " Affectionate, friendly, good natured and quiet. Digger seems to be a creature of habit so it takes him a little while to adjust to changes. Although he was unsettled during his first few days with us, from the first he’s put himself to bed at being told nightie-night (about 10pm) and stayed put without a murmur until called for at about 8am. He’s generally quiet during the day and sits near one of us. During the later afternoon he often gets the fidgets, wandering about the living room and asking to go out into the garden frequently. We think he might benefit from some kind of brain exercising toy, like a licky mat puzzle or similar but we have not tried this, partly as we don’t want to alter his routine before rehoming, and largely because our dog Billy would commandeer the toy! Digger is clean and quiet round the house and tends to follow me around. He has never tried to go upstairs or onto the furniture. " If you would like to offer Digger a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the . You can then contact the Oldies Club rehoming team as follows: Email: for an application form. Or , leaving a message including your email address, and we’ll email an application form. He can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him. If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.

About Devoted Digger

What life with Devoted Digger looks like

Devoted Digger is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Devoted Digger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Devoted Digger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Devoted Digger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Devoted Digger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Devoted Digger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Devoted Digger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Devoted Digger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
