Dexter

German Shepherd Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Dexter is two year old German shepherd boy, needing a new home due to the ill health of his owner. Dexter is a very confident dog and can be quite bouncy. He’s starting to show signs of frustration and can be a little disruptive in the house. Again, this is just due to the fact his owner isn’t well and therefore he doesn’t get the walks and stimulation all young dogs need. He is a lovely dog and will flourish in the right home. He is good with children 2+ but as he can be very OTT we want a home with dog savvy children 10+. He’s good with other dogs but a no to cats. We would therefore be happy to find him a home with a friendly speyed/neutered dog to keep him company. We are told he is ok to be left for reasonable periods of time. He is not yet neutered but this will be done as part of the . He is vaccinated and chipped. Forever homes can be anywhere within the UK but you will need to travel to meet them where he is in South Yorkshire. Our adoption fee is Β£250.

About Dexter

What life with Dexter looks like

Dexter is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at JLP Trust Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dexter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dexter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. JLP Trust Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dexter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dexter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” JLP Trust Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Dexter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dexter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with JLP Trust Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dexter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
