Dexter

Male · Adult · 6 years

Dexter - a name from home but a character far from the hero of the famous series. At first glance quiet and unassuming, a bit like an overgrown york, but beneath this somewhat neglected "characterization" lies a dog with a story. He had an owner, he had his life... until one day he ended up in an animal shelter and no one came back for him. Dexter is small, very neglected, and urgently needs a groomer's visit - only then will he show how he really looks. On walks, he marches bravely, although he is often a bit in his own world, as if analyzing reality on his own terms. In the kennel, however, he misses people - the presence of humans is important to him and clearly gives him a sense of security. For now, he gets along peacefully with other dogs: mostly he passes them by and doesn't look for conflicts, although if approached, he can set boundaries. He is 6 years old and it is becoming more and more evident that he is looking for stability, not chaos. There is a good chance he will find himself in a family with children, with appropriate introduction and support. The serial Dexter led a double life - the shelter Dexter also seems stuck between what was and what might still happen.

PL·Show original

About Dexter

What life with Dexter looks like

Dexter is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Severely neglected, urgently needs grooming visit

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dexter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dexter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dexter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dexter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dexter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dexter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dexter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
