Dexter

Male · Puppy · 11 months

Dexter is still young and learning more about the world, he currently is anxious about getting into cars so will need patience and support in building up his confidence. He has shown some guarding behaviour around toys, but is happy for you to swap them out. Because of this he may be able to live with older kids if they were sensible around him but we would mainly recommend Adult only homes. Ideally his adopters would live within an hour of the centre as you will need to visit quite a few times. This will help Dexter build up a relationship with you before the adoption process can go any further. Please don’t let this put you off Dexter as he is a really social, playful and loving dog who is well worth the visits! Dexter is a sweet, bouncy 10-month-old Cocker Spaniel Saluki Crossbreed with so much love to give! He will need adopters who are happy to continue training with him, he is a very clever boy who is eager to learn. Dexter is super friendly and playful with people / other dogs and could potentially live with another dog if they were similar in playstyle.

About Dexter

What life with Dexter looks like

Dexter is a puppy/kitten dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dexter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dexter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dexter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dexter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dexter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dexter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dexter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
