Dexter2

German Shorthaired Pointer · Male · Adult · 8 years

Feb' 2024 This very handsome chap is 8 year old Dexter. He is looking for an active home with lots of lovely walks and attention. His family have had to make this sad decision because they feel that with two young children 4 and 6 and both working full time he isn’t getting the exercise and attention that he loves. Dexter has no medical issues and no major behavioural issues – except for a cauliflower ear caused from shaking his head due to ear infections that have left his ear damaged but causes him no pain according to his owners. Dexter gets very anxious at the vets so his jabs are not currently up to date and he hasn’t been neutered. He starts to get upset as soon as they arrive in the carpark. He also dislikes fireworks and will try and hide in a safe place. Dexter is very good when left at home even for 4-5 hours after exercise, he is happy to sit by the front window and watch the outside world go by. He’s never been desructive when left and is usually found snoozing on the sofa when allowed. He is fine around livestock but will chase cats. He’s very good with children and is currently living with two, his owners say that they just have to be careful when someone knocks the door as he will run and totally forget about the children and has knocked them over in his eagerness to greet the visitors, he’s also very gentle when he has toys and the children are retreiving them from him. While walking he can be quite strong so his owners use a Halti on his extendable lead, which they find helps. His recall apparently depends on his mood, some days it’s good other days he doesn’t listen much at all according to his owners, on his good days he happily comes to “This way” but they admit that they haven’t been consistent with it. He gets on with most dogs but can be a little wary of black dogs. He’s a good traveller and will sit up for a while then sleep in his bed. Gorgeous Dexter is in the Nottingham area and will be rehomed with our Adoption Contract and his 5 weeks free Agria insurance. If you think you can offer him the time and long walks that he loves please contact us GSP Rescue UK Terms and Conditions apply 💜🐾🐾 © GSP Rescue UK 2016–2026 GSP Rescue UK is a working name of German Shorthaired Pointer Trust, a Registered Charity in England & Wales No. 1172457

About Dexter2

What life with Dexter2 looks like

Dexter2 is a adult german shorthaired pointer dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dexter2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dexter2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dexter2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dexter2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dexter2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dexter2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dexter2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
