Didi &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

I am male, neutered, and born around 2010. I have been waiting for a new home since July 2019. My caretakers say about me: Didi came to us as an emergency animal. Found in the middle of Grimma's streets, he was motionless and disoriented. Transporting him in the laundry basket was no problem; Didi was absolutely helpless. Initially, he was simply left behind by his owners during a move. At the vet, besides the FIV diagnosis, they searched for the cause of his restlessness and the circling, but no exact cause for the neurological episodes could be found. With the antibiotic treatment, his condition stabilized, and his circles belong to the past. Now, he gets B Vitamin 12 in his food daily, and he is doing well. Didi received and requires no vaccination due to his diagnosis; a stress-free environment is beneficial for a good and normal long cat life. His finder and we are both happy about the ordeal he has overcome, now it is time to find Didi his own home. Besides his limitations, he is an absolutely charming tomcat, clingy, and affectionate. Freigang is no longer possible to prevent Didi from infecting other animals. A home for Didi is sought as a single animal or with another FIV-positive animal; he gets along well with fellow animals. He lives with one at our shelter, perhaps both will have the great fortune to move into a new home together, which would be an absolute match made in heaven. Who would like to share their joy of life with Didi and give him a home with lots of cuddles?. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Didi &#8211

What life with Didi &#8211 looks like

Didi &#8211 is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Didi &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Didi &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Didi &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Didi &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Didi &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Didi &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Didi &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
