Adopt Diego

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

How charming is this boy with his fantastic eye twitches! Diego is a very soft and sweet boy with a slightly cautious demeanor. He shows his kindness with great respect, whether it's towards people or dogs. Diego gets along problem-free with all the nice dogs but avoids those who are dominant or too "on." He wants his friends to be welcoming and good-natured – just like he is. His best friend in the pen is named Rita, and through her, he has started to take things for himself and make friends among the staff. Diego is happy to seek support from the staff in situations where he feels he doesn't fully understand. He also wishes for a kind person in his future life who can guide him with understanding and empathy – preferably with an existing dog friend at home. Diego will thrive in the woods and fields where he can get outlets for his curiosity or simply enjoy the quiet and all the exciting scents. He is a fantastic boy who will spread joy in his new home. For our finest Diego, we are now seeking a safe and loving home where he can be spoiled and neglected. The home should be in a quiet location and in close proximity to nice walking trails. The smallest bones should not be at home. Diego would very much like to live together with a slightly calmer, kind dog who can help him settle into his new life. With his gentle nature, we believe he will also be able to become a good friend to a dog or cat. Note that we do not know Diego's background – where he lived and what happened to him. Therefore, he must never be pressured where he feels insecure – among new people and in new environments. BackgroundDiego was discovered on a cold December afternoon wandering alone at the pen's parking lot. He may have been drawn there by the barking of dogs or the scent of food – or he may have been dumped there during the night. Diego was as thin as a stick – the hip bones stood out from his body, and the fur was dirty and dull. He was also very afraid, making him difficult to approach.

About Diego

What life with Diego looks like

Diego is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diego, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diego?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diego on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diego if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diego already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diego isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diego and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
