Diesel

Beagle · Male · Senior · 9 years

Meet social butterfly Diesel! This 9 year old Beagle definitely doesn’t act his age, he is still full of beans and loves nothing more than jumping in the car to go on fun new adventures. This handsome gent just adores attention, if he can sit on your lap, he will do! And don’t even think about stopping fusses, as he will paw at you for more. Could you be Diesels new best friend? Diesel has started the search for his new home, and is looking for a new family who understand his classic Beagle traits – he loves a sniffy walk and he loves his (and your) food! This friendly boy can live with secondary school aged children as he doesn’t have many boundaries when it comes to attention, so children in the home must be comfortable with his wanting to be close by. Diesel doesn’t enjoy other dogs in his face too much, so wouldn’t be able to share his home with another dog, but could have calm walking friends to meet up with. He is a very good boy in the home, he is happy being left during the day whilst his foster carers pop out, and lets you know when he needs to go out to the toilet. He is a typical Beagle and can be a bit of a food thief, and will steal food if given a chance, so adopters must be mindful of this and not leave food around unsupervised that he could get his paws on! Diesel will need to meet his adopters a couple of times prior to going home so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet him within 48hrs of being shortlisted.

About Diesel

What life with Diesel looks like

Diesel is a senior beagle dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diesel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diesel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diesel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diesel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diesel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diesel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diesel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
