Dolly

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Our little Bodeguera Dolly just celebrated her first birthday (as of 07/2022). Unfortunately, she did not do so in the company of her own family, and there was also no extra cookie or a new ball, because Dolly is in Huelva at the animal shelter and is still waiting for her ticket to happiness - which would certainly be the best belated birthday gift in the world for this cute terrier head. Bodegueros are usually very energetic dogs, fearless and curious, very playful and sociable - but none of this applies to Dolly yet. She has probably seen and felt too much in her young life. But since the moment this quiet, calm girl came to our friends from Puntanimals in April, she has already learned a lot about trust and security. Initially, Dolly did not allow herself to be touched and joint walks were impossible, as she hung on the leash like paralyzed by fear. Now, you just need to have a little patience and give Dolly time to seek physical contact on her own, then you have a small cuddle princess on your lap who can never get enough affection - and even gives some shy compliments. Dolly also now appreciates walks. However, patience is still an important magic word, because if a situation unsettles or scares Dolly, she simply stands still. Of course, you can continue walking with a small dog like a Bodeguera, but then Dolly only learns that no one takes her fear into account and she is justified in being afraid. If the little delicate flower is given time to understand that there is no danger and that the person by her side can protect her, our little fighter has already shown great bravery and confidently steps past everything that previously caused her so much worry. That Dolly handles difficult situations with support and patience on her own proves us again how much this teenager needs a family that can explain the world to her in a safe home with a lot of understanding. In the animal shelter, there is neither time for necessary regular training nor can Dolly always be with the same people. In the right environment, with her own family, Dolly will soon discover the genuine, fun-loving, energetic Bodeguero within herself. Can you give her the chance for such a nice terrier future?

DE·Show original

About Dolly

What life with Dolly looks like

Dolly is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dolly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dolly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dolly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dolly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dolly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dolly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dolly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
