Adopt Donatus

Mixed Breed · Female

Donatus – Cuddle monster on four paws is looking for a new, loving home Donatus is currently at a foster home and fits in very well. A visit to the dog groomer at the beginning, which went smoothly, helped get the unspeakable hair under control and he looks fantastic. A real picture of a dog! Through daily long walks, he is now in good condition and enjoys long sprints, which he completes with a smile. It seems that he wants to make up for what he has missed so far very quickly and sometimes displays pubescent behaviors such as ignoring commands briefly, turning around, looking, and running off again, etc. However, he should quickly get rid of this with his learning speed. Because otherwise, he masters commands like: "Sit, Down, Here, Slow, Go..." etc. effortlessly. "Stay" works perfectly at home, but not yet outdoors. To all people he meets, he behaves very politely, greets them wagging his tail upon request, and then cuddles with them. Overall, he is an incredibly loving and affection-seeking dog who rewards cuddles with grateful "slobber kisses" and tends to feel more like a lap dog because he often tries to sit on the upper legs with his hindquarters. The only problem that still persists is other dogs. He probably considers the very small ones as "prey," because he suddenly rushes forward without any warning, tail raised or growling, and there's power behind it. With larger dogs, especially if they are female, the first cautious contacts - even on a leash - usually went well. With a Ridgeback female dog, even playing was possible. Still, he cannot pass another dog closely without problems - but we are working on it. ?

About Donatus

What life with Donatus looks like

Donatus is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donatus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donatus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donatus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donatus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donatus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donatus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donatus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
