adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt Donja! adoption requirements adoption process Donja has found her home! Her story: The beautiful Donja with her white fur and caramel face, she enchants everyone instantly. We got to meet her at our visit in April and immediately fell in love with this charming and delicate female dog… ❤️Donja is always reserved and cautious. She is extremely happy about attention and cuddles, but is never pushy. When we took her to the yard, she always sought protection between our legs when the other dogs became too much for her. She is truly a dream dog and something special… Whoever gets Donja has hit the jackpot. The name Donja means "the world," but unfortunately, the world is not yet open to her, as fate has harshly punished her and her sister Pebbles. Together, they were dropped off at the public shelter Bistrita. Her previous owner is leaving the country and will not take her. What a tragic event that makes us sad and speechless… Pebbles had already been lucky and could travel to her family. But sister Donja was left alone and doesn't understand the world anymore. She has already lost a lot of weight in the months at the shelter because she is very stressed by the situation. Therefore, it is urgent for Donja to travel to a safe life as soon as possible. Donja is a loving and uncomplicated female dog who walks well on a leash and attentively follows all commands. You can feel that she always wants to please and do everything right. With her approximate height of 55-60 cm, Donja weighs around 25-30 kg. Her appearance is beautiful – she is a real sight to behold – a female dog to fall in love with. Donja carries a dense, cuddly white coat with a caramel-colored face. But Donja's gaze is currently still very sad… Life at the shelter is not beautiful and very dreary. Donja longs for warmth and security, a cozy dog bed, long walks – for a beautiful dog life and a person who won't leave her and shows her that reliability and loyalty are top priority. At the moment, she spends her days alone in the yard without care. Donja's suitcase is packed. She brings her EU pet passport, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She can also travel positively. She would also be very happy with a foster home! Would you like to go through life with Donja and show her that the sun can also shine for her? Thank you Maira for giving Donja this wonderful name and thus an identity. As of: 10.05. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

Stand: 10.05.2025

About Donja

What life with Donja looks like

Donja is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
