Dora

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

female dog DORA, born around May 2024, shoulder height around 55 cm, currently weighing around 18-20 kg (ideal weight), a dog bed is sought immediately. Dora was born around May 2024, is around 55 cm tall, and is currently much too thin – her ideal weight would be around 18-20 kg. She likely has a mix of hunting dog in her. Dora belongs to the quieter, more sensitive souls. New stimuli are very overwhelming, and she seeks protection from humans when outside. She is not yet familiar with walking on a leash, and the loudness and stress in the animal shelter make it harder for her to come out of her shell. She lives uncomplicatedly in a small pack in her pen, but unfortunately, she is often bullied there, making it difficult for her to approach food. She could benefit from gaining a few kilos, as she is currently much too thin. Dora longs for security, safety, and peace. We wish for the sensitive mouse – waiting in the second row – a wonderful, peaceful home in the countryside. People who show her that the world can also be beautiful. She is a very gentle, loving female dog who will surely flourish with the right people by her side and radiate daily gratitude and love. Of course, it will require patience to show her all the stimuli in peace that have been denied her for so long. But whoever gives their heart to this gentle soul will receive a hundredfold in love. Dora is wonderful! Who will finally give this delicate spirit a real chance? 🐶💕 We do not place in very urban living situations or with families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if the adoption can be taken on at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the acceptance of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers). The descriptions are based on behavior in this familiar environment. Puppies and young dogs are also still in the process of developing their character. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to adapt to the new environment and grow into secure dogs.

About Dora

What life with Dora looks like

Dora is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
