Dorito

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Senior · 14 years

Dorito was admitted into our care along with his sibling as young kittens after being found abandoned suffering from cat flu. After treatment, he is now ready to find himself his new home. It has took some time for Dorito to settle into cattery life, as he was initially quite shy and nervous. However after several months with our animal care team, he has started to come out of his shell and shown our team his playful personality. He has a playful and curious nature, and enjoys spending time playing with teaser toys with our animal care team and volunteers. He can at times still be wary of loud noises and new people so will need a family who understand that he may take some time to settle into a new environment. He would suit a family who have experience with cats and would prefer to live in a household with children over the age of 14 years old, who understand that he does not like being lifted and held and that it may take him some time to settle into his new environment. Once settled, he would like the option to go in and out of the home. It is unknown how he would react around other pets in the household, however gradual introductions are advised.

About Dorito

What life with Dorito looks like

Dorito is a senior mixed breed cat cat waiting at USPCA.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Dorito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dorito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. USPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dorito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dorito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — USPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dorito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dorito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with USPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dorito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
