Dougal

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Young · 2 years

Hi everyone, I'm devilishly handsome Dougal. I came into YCR after being handed into the vets with a poorly leg I need an understanding owner who is willing to work at my pace, respect my boundaries, and accept that trust may take a very long time to build. I do enjoy a head bop but aren't a fan of having my back or tail stroked. I am not the type of cat who will immediately seek affection or enjoy being handled but I am a big foodie and I'm sure you can win the way in to my heart with treats and yummy food :) I think really I just purfur things on my terms like the prince that I am :) I may not ever be a cuddly boy and might not want to curl up on your lap. I may just be a boy that is happiest living primarily outdoors once I am settled and benefit from an environment where I can choose how much interaction I have with people. Due to my nature I would like a home with no dogs or children and no other cats. The lovely ladies here at YCR will explain everything to you. If you can provide me the home I am looking for please click "Apply Here" and fill in an application form. I am looking for an experienced owner that has had experience with cats with similar behaviour as me.

About Dougal

What life with Dougal looks like

Dougal is a large young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Yorkshire Cat Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dougal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dougal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Yorkshire Cat Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dougal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dougal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Yorkshire Cat Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dougal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dougal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Yorkshire Cat Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dougal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
