Dougie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 10 months

Meet Dougie! This 10-month-old pocket rocket is an absolute darling and has all the wonderful qualities you’d hope to find in a young pup. Fun, affectionate, lively and full of personality, Dougie is always ready for her next adventure. We believe she’s a small Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross with a huge character packed into her little frame. Dougie has previously lived with children and has been a fantastic little companion. Like any youngster, she’s bouncy and enthusiastic, so we’d be looking for a home with dog-savvy children who understand that she’s still very much a puppy at heart. She gets on well with other dogs and shows no issues around them, but she would be equally happy living as an only dog where she can soak up all the attention for herself. Dougie is looking for an active, fun-loving home where she can be involved in family life and enjoy plenty of walks, adventures and cuddles along the way. She’s the sort of dog who will happily throw herself into whatever you’re doing, as long as she’s doing it with her people. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Dougie could be the perfect match.

About Dougie

What life with Dougie looks like

Dougie is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Dougie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dougie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dougie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dougie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dougie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dougie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dougie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
