adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Duna has found her home! Her story: The approximately 2-year-old Duna dreams of a warm home with a family in the public shelter in Romania that will embrace her and never let her go. The beautiful female dog with brown-black fur and pretty hazel eyes, already packed her suitcases and looks longingly toward a better future. Duna is a roughly 50-55 cm tall young female dog. We can say nothing about her past, like so many homeless street dogs. She is currently still a bit reserved and must learn to get close to people. She does not want to be touched at the moment and prefers to retreat. The shelter stresses her very much and affects the shy mouse, which certainly contributes to her insecurity. She gets along well with her fellow animals, whether male dog or female dog. It can be assumed that Duna is not yet familiar with life in a house. Leash walking and house cleanliness are just as unfamiliar to her as the behavior rules for a well-behaved house dog. But we are sure that Duna will quickly learn the whole dog 1×1 if she is trained patiently and lovingly. We are looking for loving people who will always positively reinforce their training with Duna. People who will give her time to adjust to her new life and not rush her. An enclosed garden where Duna can run around or lie in the sun would be perfect. The friendly Duna travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She has an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive foster home. Thank you to Heike F. for giving Duna a beautiful name and thus an identity for her new life. As of: 13.09.

Stand: 13.09.2024

About Duna

What life with Duna looks like

Duna is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Duna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Duna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Duna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Duna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Duna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Duna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Duna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
