Duna

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Duna was rescued by our friends from the killing station, where behind dark windows in barred concrete holes many four-legged animals await a certain death. Either by injection or often through infectious diseases that spread rapidly in summer heat under incomprehensibly bad hygienic conditions like wildfire, especially affecting puppies and sick dogs en masse. We would all love to rescue every dog from this hell, but as long as politics in southern Europe still believes more in killing than in sterilization, as long as waste policy doesn't change and free food is abundantly available for strays, and also as long as private households don't understand why they should have their dogs sterilized, animal protection in Spain is often a battle against windmills. Therefore, education is at least as important as rescuing individual animals. Duna was lucky, great luck, and our cheerful sunshine knows it very well. Full of enthusiasm, she greets her caretakers in the morning, is hardly stoppable when it comes to setting a new record in continuous extreme tail-wagging, and has a zest for life and energy that would easily be enough for an entire pack. Apart from her excellent and seemingly genuinely unspoiled character (Duna shows no fear of people so far), she is also a real eye-catcher visually. The dark licorice nose and the eyes outlined as if with an eyeliner pencil, as well as her athletic figure, will certainly attract the attention of neighbors in her new home. Either way, Duna is a real prize, bringing lots of joy, fun, and especially cuddles to your couch. Duna wants to experience adventures, always be by her two-legged companion's side, and go through thick and thin with you. Right now, Duna doesn't even know where to put all the love she so wants to give someone, but maybe things will change soon, and our fun machine will finally find out what it feels like to fall asleep next to a person who promises never to let go of her paw again. Let Dunas boldest dreams come true?

DE·Show original

About Duna

What life with Duna looks like

Duna is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Duna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Duna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Duna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Duna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Duna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Duna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Duna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
