Edgar

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet Edgar, this handsome young bull breed is bursting with energy, enthusiasm, and personality. As a young dog, he's still learning about the world and can get a little overexcited at times. He'll benefit from ongoing training, clear boundaries, and positive reinforcement to help him channel his energy in the right direction. He's a clever boy who is eager to engage with his people and enjoys having both his mind and body kept busy. He has an affectionate side and loves a fuss from his bonded handlers. Toys are his favourite and he enjoys chasing soft toys and tennis balls in our secure paddocks. Due to his training and energy we feel Edgar needs his home to have a private secure garden. Edgar is currently working on calmer interactions in different situations as he can jump up and become excitable when greeting new people. Edgar is looking to be placed his new home to have older teens or adults only while he works on his interactions. While he is an excitable boy, Edgar has shown to be slightly worried and avoiding when meeting animated dogs. He is working on building his confidence and positive interactions around other dogs and when he feels comfortable he seems to enjoy their company and can have a game. He does not always know how to read other dogs if they do not wish to play and and have a bark at them and sometimes has a little spin around to encourage them to play. We feel Edgar may be able to live with another dog who matches his personality and respects his space if he is worried. Edgar is food motivated, this will come in handy when teaching him new tricks and building positive association to new experiences. Edgar will make an excitable and fun-loving companion for his new owners. About Edgar

What life with Edgar looks like

Edgar is a large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edgar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edgar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edgar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edgar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edgar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edgar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edgar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
