Effie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

EffieFemale dog, small in size. Approx. 5-6 years old (April 2026). Sweet, affectionate dog who loves cuddles and gets on great with cats and other dogs. Meet EffieEffie is looking for a happy ending. Beautiful little girl Effie sadly found herself back in the pound once again. Two years ago she was spayed and returned to the streets. We believe she once belonged to a family in the countryside, as she had a chain around her neck. Sadly, her life brought her back to the pound, but has been kindly sponsored out of the pound and into a pension, where she is now waiting and hoping for a second chance. Despite everything she has been through, Effie has the most loving nature. She absolutely adores people, loves cuddles and attention, and she gets along very well with other dogs, and is good around cats too. Effie would make a wonderful companion and a perfect family dog. She is patiently waiting for someone to notice her, fall in love, and finally give her forever home she deserves. Effie is spayed, vaccinated and negative on testing. All our dogs are tested for the following prior to travel: Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Erlichiosis, Lyme Disease, Brucellosis (since 11th June 2021). About Effie

What life with Effie looks like

Effie is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Balkan Underdogs in Tirana.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇱Adopting from Albania

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Effie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Effie?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Balkan Underdogs handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Effie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Effie if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Balkan Underdogs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Effie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Effie isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Balkan Underdogs early rather than rehoming privately; they know Effie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
