Elana

Poodle · Female · Adult · 5 years

06-07-26 Elana is a nervous lady who has come into our care from a breeder. Although she came from a breeder, she has never been used for breeding and has never had any litters. We have been told she was born at the breeder's with a naturally small tail, which is why she was never bred from. Elana is a lovely girl who just needs people to be patient with her. She can be very wary when meeting new people, so it's important to let her take things at her own pace. Once she feels comfortable, she is happy to accept a gentle fuss and begins to relax. She absolutely loves other dogs and really enjoys playing with them. Elana has spent her life living in a rural setting, mostly off lead, and has had very little experience of people outside of those she already knew. Because of this, strangers can be quite worrying for her. Although she was not used to breed, she will need adopters who have experience with ex-breeders and understand the background she has come from. Elana will need another kind and confident dog in the home, and this dog will be a much-needed support system as she settles into family life and continues to build her confidence. She can live with older, dog-savvy teens, aged 16+ that will provide her with a calm home. Elana has lived in a home before, so she will be familiar with the sights and sounds of a home environment. However, she may still need some help with house training and lead walking as she adjusts to her new home and routine. She will need an extra secure garden, of at least 6ft to help keep her safe. Elana is a sweet girl who enjoys the company of other dogs and is looking for a patient family who will let her settle in at her own pace. With time, understanding, and a confident canine friend by her side, we hope she will continue to grow in confidence and enjoy all that her new life has to offer. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Elana

What life with Elana looks like

Elana is a small adult poodle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
