Adopt Elf

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 15 months

Adopt Elf!Elf is a playful, timid, cheeky 15 month old female dog for adoption, who is looking for her very own loving family where she can develop into an active, fun-loving companion. Rescued from the flooding disaster after the Kakhovka Dam was blown up in Ukraine in June 2023, as just a tiny pup who fitted in a cat basket, Elf is a formerly-feral dog, who has spent the past year in foster in Ukraine, adjusting to living in a household with humans. She is now comfortable with her carers, yet is still nervous of strangers and will bark at people she doesn’t know. Her foster home is however in an area that is subjected to bombing, so we are keen to get her to a safer home. Elf is affectionate and loves attention and playing with toys. She enjoys playing with her best friend Tia, so a home with another dog is a must for Elf, either her new family will have an existing resident dog, or they adopt Elf together with another dog. She currently lives in a household full of dogs and cats, so can live with cats, with appropriate careful introductions. Elf can also suit living with dog savvy kids. She needs a home in a peaceful setting away from busy towns or cities with access to a garden and would enjoy company for most of the day. She needs a family who is prepared to commit the time and energy into helping her adjust to life as a domestic dog and carefully introduce her to the big outside world, in small increments, with our guidance and support. In summary, Elf is a cheeky, sweet natured dog, who, with a lot of tender loving care we feel will blossom into a comical, fun-loving, playful girl. Background All of our dogs have lived their whole lives in family groups in an open space, kennel free environment and it is therefore a shock for them to leave all that they know. For this reason, we require Elf ’s new family to either have an existing resident dog, or adopt Elf together with another dog. Name Elf Basic Info 15 months old (approx. Enquire NowHolistic Rawfeeding Rescue We are a holistic rawfeeding rescue, so as with all our rescue dogs and puppies for adoption, Our dogs are fed a natural raw diet such as Paleo Ridge for improved health and longevity. As a rawfeeding rescue, we ask that this diet is continued in their new home as they really love it! We provide full advice and support as standard for anyone who is new to rawfeeding dogs or holistic principles. Sorry, your browser doesn't support embedded videos.Homecheck applies. For dogs coming from Ukraine, we ask Adopters to commit to a month’s trial because the dogs will arrive traumatised both from the transportation and from all that they have endured due to the ongoing War, so their personalities will not shine for several weeks. Our dogs have come from the conflict zones, and will need time to decompress in a safe and calm environment. This means absolutely no walks away from the home for the first month – these dogs are not yet ready to be walked in unfamiliar surroundings, so a home with a large secure garden in a peaceful setting away from busy towns or cities would be a great introduction to living in a family environment in the UK. Full lifetime rescue backup and adoption contract applies, so if for any reason our dog is not suitable or circumstances change, we require the dog to be returned to us. ** We are just a very small team here in the UK, so we currently prioritize adopters within travelling distance of the South of the UK. We apologize if this leads to disappointment, however we have found through experience that adoptions more local to us do not overstretch our limited resources. Thank you for your understanding! About Elf

What life with Elf looks like

Elf is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at K9 Rescue in Crymych.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. K9 Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — K9 Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with K9 Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
