Adopt Eli-zka

Mixed Breed · Unknown

This puppy (born around 2021) came to the shelter after an intervention in October 2025, as a result of relinquishing custody rights. When we met Elizka on our way, she was not walking (since August 2025), but we were unable to determine exactly what happened or when the possible injury that caused her hind legs to lose power occurred. We undertook a tedious and difficult fight to restore Eli-zce's mobility. Although it was certainly not easy in shelter conditions, step by step we took further actions: expensive diagnostics (first in Słupsk, then in Gdansk) and two spinal surgeries (also in Gdansk). Sunia still walks rather awkwardly, but we continue to fight for her to regain full mobility. Sunia is a volcano of energy! Definitely, a potential home must work on managing her emotions, train with her self-control and calmness. In isolation, she is a quiet dog, sometimes spending several hours in the office, she can lie down and rest, but she shows excessive excitement when preparing for a walk. Due to her spinal problems, Sunia has not yet been sterilized; we need to wait a while to not overly burden her body. However, we already encourage people to meet this suni and take her temporarily - home warmth, regular walks and active participation in family life will be much better than the shelter isolation. Sunia keeps a distance from other dogs, especially larger ones, but she does not have a problem getting along with other dogs, even with female dogs, with professional help. She returned in harmony with two unfamiliar dogs from rehabilitation from the PsiKot center, and also sometimes functions in the office area, accepting dogs she meets there. However, we noticed that cats may be a problem for her, because unfortunately, the shelter kittens annoyed her by taking her food, so a home without cats is preferred.

Podjęliśmy żmudną i trudną walkę, by przywrócić Eli-zce sprawność. Sunia nadal chodzi dość niezbornie jednak w dalszym ciągu walczymy o to, by odzyskała pełną sprawność. Sunia jest wulkanem energii! Zdecydowanie potencjalny domek musiałby popracować nad opanowaniem emocji, ćwiczyć z nią samokontrolę i wyciszanie.

About Eli-zka

What life with Eli-zka looks like

Eli-zka is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eli-zka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eli-zka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eli-zka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eli-zka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eli-zka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eli-zka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eli-zka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
