Elias

Male · Adult · 8 years

Several years ago, Elias was adopted by us as a young kitten and found a home together with his brother. For a long time, everything was fine, but over time the dynamic changed, and Elias began to mark his territory and no longer got along well with the other cats in the household—not even with his own brother. That’s when he came back to us. Elias is a large, handsome tomcat who has no fear of human contact. He’s thrilled about every visit and, after an initial period of reserve, quickly becomes open and friendly toward people. From his previous home, we know that Elias was a rather quiet roommate who loved to sleep in bed with his humans. According to his former owners, he’s not a good match for small children—which we can confirm. In situations that feel unsafe to him or when he gets startled, Elias may occasionally let out a hiss. As is typical for a cat, he’ll also show his displeasure if something doesn’t suit him. Unfortunately, he’s already bitten once; we suspect it was either a displacement behavior or a pain-related reaction. At almost nine years old, Elias isn’t quite a senior yet, but unfortunately he does have age-related health issues and reacts, for example, with noticeable sensitivity in his back. A blood test revealed that one early-warning indicator for kidney function is slightly elevated. To relieve his kidneys as much as possible right now, Elias receives special food—which, fortunately, he enjoys eating. Unfortunately, his teeth also need treatment, and Elias will soon have an appointment for dental surgery. Until then, he’ll be given pain medication for his teeth and his back. During the surgery, his hips and back will also be X-rayed, hopefully providing a concrete explanation for his discomfort. Elias is a proud tomcat who deserves the chance to start anew as a single prince in his very own home. He’ll make a wonderful companion for someone who knows a thing or two about cats—someone who appreciates and respects an independent, self-confident feline.

About Elias

What life with Elias looks like

Elias is a large adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elias, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elias?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elias on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elias if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elias already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elias isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elias and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
