Adopt Elke

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

For mixed-breed dog Elke, just one thing is missing: her human family. Elke has only recently arrived at our Bulgarian partner animal shelter and is more than ready to start her own happy journey. The approximately two-year-old female dog is open, friendly, and attentive toward people. She also gets along well with her fellow animals and moves comfortably within the group of dogs. Unfortunately, we do not know what Elke has experienced in her past life. Therefore, we assume that she still needs to learn the basics of cohabitation—such as house training, leash manners, or relaxed car rides. For Elke, we wish for people who will welcome her with patience, understanding, and a lot of love. People who will give her the time to settle in at her own pace and show her the world with positive reinforcement and a clear, loving structure. If Elke gets this chance, she will surely develop into a loyal, attached companion. A balanced mix of mental stimulation, shared adventures, and of course, many cuddle sessions would be exactly right for the friendly female dog. Who will fall in love with Elke and give her the chance to live a life full of love, security, and shared memories? Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have serious interest in adopting Elke, please contact the responsible mediator at SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home.

About Elke

What life with Elke looks like

Elke is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
