Ell

English Bulldog · Female · Adult · 7 years

Meet Ell! She is looking for a loving home where she can continue to build her confidence. When you first meet Ell, she can be very nervous and timid. New people and unfamiliar situations can be overwhelming for her, but once she knows and trusts you, her sweet personality begins to shine. She simply needs an experienced, patient owner who will give her time and space to settle at her own pace. Once she’s comfortable, Ell is incredibly friendly and affectionate. She loves belly rubs and enjoys lots of fuss. She’s not particularly interested in toys, but she does love exploring the world and having a good sniff on walks. In kennels, Ell can be very vocal, so she will need understanding neighbours and owners who appreciate that she may bark at first but this is just her way of expressing herself. She can sometimes be a bit growly when she’s at the vets, but this is fear-related, and she benefits from calm, gentle handling during stressful situations. Ell is currently carrying a little extra weight, so her new adopter will need to help her on a healthy weight-loss journey with sensible exercise and a balanced diet. This will help improve her overall health and wellbeing. Ell is looking for a kind, patient home that will see past her initial nerves and give her the chance to blossom. She would benefit from a private secure garden. Ell has socialised well with other dogs whilst in our care, so we feel she could live with another dog of similar size following a successful meet and greet. As Ell came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her and as she can be a little nervous we would like any children in the home to be 14+ years.

About Ell

What life with Ell looks like

Ell is a small adult english bulldog dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ell, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ell?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ell on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ell if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ell already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ell isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ell and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
