Jax

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 4 years

This stunning boy is Jax! we are looking for an experienced home for this fantastic lad. He is a friendly and affectionate boy who absolutely loves attention and enjoys a good fuss. He has a wonderful nature and is always happy to spend time with his people. This clever lad is exceptionally well behaved at the vets, taking examinations and handling in his stride, which is a testament to his temperament and trainability. Like many dogs, he has his own little quirks – one of his favourites is enthusiastically ragging his blankets and rearranging them to his liking! As a typical Belgian Malinois, he is highly intelligent, energetic and thrives on both physical exercise and mental stimulation. He loves charging around our compound and would be happiest in a home where he has plenty of opportunities to stay active and engaged. Because of his breed traits, he will need an owner who has previous experience with Belgian Malinois and understands their needs. He is not a dog that will be content with a short walk around the block, he requires ongoing training, enrichment and a lifestyle that allows him to use both his body and brain. He will need a private secure garden. Jax was rehomed but sadly has been returned to us as his prey drive was too much for his new owners. He cannot be rehomed with cats or small furries. He will need an owner that has previous experience with large breed high prey dogs. He has socialised well with other dogs whilst in our care, so we feel he could possibly be rehomed with another dog (similar size) following a successful meet and greet.

About Jax

What life with Jax looks like

Jax is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jax, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jax?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jax on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jax if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jax already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jax isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jax and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
