Ellie

Chihuahua · Female · Adult · 5 years

Ellie is a lovely, lively girl who is looking for a home where she can settle into a routine and enjoy lots of new experiences. She is used to sleeping in the kitchen at night, but she’ll need her new family to gradually build up the time she is left alone, as she isn’t used to being away from her people for long periods. She may also have the odd little accident when she’s feeling nervous or very excited, so her new family will need to be patient while she settles in. Ellie gets very excited when playing, especially with balls, and can be quite vocal when she’s having fun! With time, patience and a good routine, Ellie is sure to become a loving and loyal companion. She has lots of catching up to do and will need a family who can help her enjoy all the experiences she’s missed. Ellie is a confident and energetic 5 year old Pug x Chihuahua who is always ready for her next adventure! She’s a lovely, gentle girl who has lived with children before and could potentially share her new home with older primary school children again. Ellie hasn’t had many opportunities for walks or enrichment, so she’s looking for an active home where she can enjoy plenty of exercise, fun activities and new experiences. She’s a smart girl who will thrive with a good routine and lots of positive experiences. She enjoys meeting other dogs and would love to have some friendly doggy companions to socialise with. While Ellie is usually bright and confident, she does have a sensitive side and can feel a little worried in unfamiliar places. Could you be the active, loving home Ellie has been waiting for?

About Ellie

What life with Ellie looks like

Ellie is a adult chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
