Margot

Shih Tzu · Female · Adult · 4 years

Margot is looking for a calm and quiet home where she can settle in her own time. She will need to be the only dog and would be happiest with someone who can give her plenty of patience and reassurance while she gets to know her new surroundings. She could live with older secondary school-aged children and has previously lived with a cat. Margot is housetrained and can be left for short periods, but this will need to be gradually built up. Having familiar things around her, such as her own bed, helps Margot feel more comfortable. In return, she’ll be a lovely companion once she has had time to settle and build a bond with her new family. Meet Margot, a sweet 3 year old Shih Tzu x Bichon Frise who is looking for a quiet home where she can settle at her own pace. Margot can be a little unsure in new surroundings and finds comfort in familiar things, especially her own bed. Once settled, she is friendly with visitors and is a lovely girl to have around. She is housetrained and has previously been left for 1–2 hours, although this will need to be built up gradually. Margot would like to be the only dog in the home. She has previously lived with a cat and could live with older secondary school aged children who can give her the calm environment she needs. She hasn't shown much interest in toys at the centre, but in her previous home she enjoyed burying them in the garden, so you may just be welcoming a little treasure hunter into your home!

About Margot

What life with Margot looks like

Margot is a adult shih tzu dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Margot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Margot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Margot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Margot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Margot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Margot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Margot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
