Eloise

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 3 years

Eloise is a female black and white domestic shorthair cat, neutered, who was brought to the shelter as a stray on 23rd March 2023. She has a unique history and is likely from a population of feral cats. Eloise is not suited for a busy household or people looking for a cuddly cat. She needs time, patience and understanding for her past. The anxious female cat approaches her environment very cautiously, hides a lot and usually only emerges when no people are around. She currently does not allow touch and prefers to keep her distance as we humans are not yet familiar to her. A confident, social companion is very important for Eloise. A partner could show her that humans are not necessarily threatening. Eloise should never live as a single cat. To meet her needs, Eloise requires outdoor access in a safe, traffic-free area after a suitable acclimatization period. We are looking for people with heart, patience and no expectations - people who can give her the necessary time she needs to arrive at her own pace.

About Eloise

What life with Eloise looks like

Eloise is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Velbert in Velbert.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eloise, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eloise?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Velbert handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eloise on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eloise if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Velbert will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eloise already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eloise isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Velbert early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eloise and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
