Elrond

Greyhound · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Elrond is in foster care in Southampton, Hampshire, he arrived in our care on the 9th of August 2026 and he was born on the 15th of May 2023. He is a friendly boy, who loves to meet new people and make new friends! This lad has always got a huge smile on his face, never a sad day with him around. How could you resist not falling in love with him?! This boy is settling into foster care well, he is coping with the household noises, including hoover, washing machine, TV, dishwasher etc. He has shown us that he knows where he needs to go to the toilet, what a clever boy he is! Elrond lives with several other greyhounds and gets on well with them. Although this he does prefer to have a bed to himself and can get a little upset if one of the other greyhounds wants to share with him! Elrond loves welcoming you into the room with his waggy tail and big smile! Elrond enjoys going out for walks, he will trot alongside you and enjoys all that he sees. This boy just loves being out and about with his human friends, whatever the weather; his tail never seems to tire from wagging! He will greet new people with a waggy tail, a lovely smile and is polite with his manners! Elrond LOVES his food, sometimes a little too much but will take treats gently from your hand, what a lovely boy he is! This lad never thinks of his waist line and doesn’t have an off switch when it comes to food, he may need a little help from his new owner on this one! Elrond is learning how to get into a car for his car journeys. He waits patiently inside until he is allowed out and is very eager the other end to get out and start his new adventure! He has met many other breeds of dog, he shows them his politeness with his manners and would quite like to play with them, if correct introductions were carried out. His gorgeous smile never ends and he will greet his doggie friends exactly the same as his human ones – waggy tail, huge smile and polite manners! Elrond can get VERY excited if he sees other dogs playi

About Elrond

What life with Elrond looks like

Elrond is a extra-large young adult greyhound dog waiting at Greyhound Lifeline in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elrond, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elrond?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Greyhound Lifeline handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elrond on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elrond if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Greyhound Lifeline will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elrond already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elrond isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Greyhound Lifeline early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elrond and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
